Garage Door Slipping Off Track
Open and close the door manually a few times to test if the rollers are operating smoothly.
Garage door slipping off track. Your door should be good as new. Open and straighten the track at the spot where the roller has jumped out of the track use a pair of pliers and open up the track. Once you locate where the wheels on the door are jumping. You can repair serious dents by pounding on them using a hammer and block of wood but if you have a rubber mallet around use it instead.
If you notice any more problems with jumping the track or misalignment repeat the steps above until the whole track is in proper alignment. Reach overhead and pull the rope that releases the door from the opener. These include a wrench hammer pliers wood blocks or saw horses and some sort of lubricating substance like spray or even cooking oil. When a roller on the garage door comes off one of the side tracks the opener won t be able to lift the door.
Reattach the automatic garage door opener. Partially open the door and until the damaged track is lined up with one of the rollers. Open the door manually. If there is heavy damage on the tracks simply replace them.
It is advisable not to forcefully pull a jammed door down as this bends the vertical tracks and popping out of the rollers from the track leading to serious damage. Disconnect the garage door from the opener. A bad dent will cause the garage door to go off track easily similar to what a damaged rail can do to a train. This can happen if a track is accidentally struck by a heavy object and bent outward.
Apart from the frustrations caused by garage door off track serious injuries and property damage may be incurred. Use a pair of vice grips or locking pliers to hold the garage door in place.
