The only way to fix it is to put a board in it. Check to make sure the chain belt assembly is not broken or off its pulley. If you are standing behind the opener looking towards the door the board will be on the top left side. Allow roughly 10 minutes to troubleshoot your garage door opener.
The circuit board on your garage door opener will have to be replaced if you want your light to function properly. Disconnect the unit power. Check to make sure the pulley is not boken. After 90 seconds reconnect the power and see if the lights come on.
It is simple to put a board in. Disconnect the wiring from the opener. You will find that the door will only move an inch or so in the close direction and reverse. Pull the cover off.
